The
existence of air ions was first proposed in 1789 by Abbe Bertholon,
a European monk, who noted the response of medical and healthy people
to changes in the electrical state of the ambient air. Invisible
to the eye, silent and devoid of odour or taste, it took until 1899
for the existence of air ions to be proved by Elster and Geital.
Since
1930 university and hospital researchers worldwide have been investigating
the properties and effects of air ions. They have discovered that
air ions will strip the air of pollutants by electrostatic filtration,
have a biocidal action on many microbes and directly affect key
metabolic processes under-pinning a broad range of mental, physical
and performance functions in humans and animals. |
